Obituary.
William Blackledge was born in Carroll county, Ohio, September 14, 1830 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. F. Johnson, south of Altamont, Kans., June 30, 1913, aged 82 years, 9 months and 16 days. He was married to Phebe Johns November 25, 1851 in Ohio. To this union 8 children were born, two dying in infancy; six still living, three boys and three girls. They are Mrs. G. Torbert and Mrs. J. F. Johnson of Altamont, Mrs. A. L. Utterback of Caney, Kans., Seward and Elmer of Chetopa, and J. F. of Caney.
Ever since his marriage Mr.
Blackledge had been a contractor. In 1854 he left Ohio and moved to
Rockville, Ind., where he lived about 20 years. In 1875 he moved to
Peoria, Ill., where he remained until 1879, when he came to Oswego where he
lived nearly 15 years, but made several changes during that time on account of
his work. Mr. Blackledge moved to Caney eight years ago where his wife
died December 8, 1906. The deceased was a soldier in Co. G, 133 Ind. vol.
The remains were taken to Caney
for burial where the remains were consigned to the grave by the side of his
wife.
