PIONEER, DEAD

He Settled in Centerville Township,

This County, Forty Years Ago.

  Thomas Lloyd of 401 South Steuben avenue died at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon.  Mr. Lloyd, 82 years of age was a Civil War veteran, and had lived in this county forty years, settling first in Centerville township and moving to Chanute ten years ago when he retired from the farm.  He is survived by a foster-son, Everett Lloyd, his wife dying last winter.

Services in the Methodist Church at

3 in the Afternoon.

  Funeral services for Thomas Lloyd will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock from the First Methodist Church, in charge of its pastor, Dr. B. F. Gaither, and interment will be made in Elmwood Abbey.  The Grand Army of the Republic will officiate at the cemetery.

  Mr. Lloyd was born in Marietta, O., Feb. 16, 1838.  He passed away yesterday at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 24 days.  He served in behalf of the Union in the Civil war from 1861-1865 with the Seventh Ohio light artillery.  In 1872 Mr. Lloyd moved to Iowa and to Centerville township this county, in 1879.  On March 2, 1885 he united in marriage with Elmyra Simpson of Blue Mound, Kansas.  Mrs. Lloyd died last January.
