Expires Near Pleasanton.

While driving his own cows home from pasture, Monday evening, Sawyer Makinson, a pioneer in this county living near Pleasanton, fell dead. Heart failure was the cause of death.

About 5 o’clock accompanied by a grandson he went to the pasture, on the way home, the two parted for a few minutes. When the grandson again came into view, the grandparent was not to be found. The child made a search and found the prone form of his grand father. He hurried to the house and gave the alarm. Doctors were called but death had come.

Shortly afterward, Justice T. B. Harper held an inquest and heart failure was assigned as the cause of death.

Mr. Makinson was born in Middleton, Ohio, 67 years ago. He was reared in Iowa. In January, 1862 he entered the First Iowa Cavalry and served for three years. Not long after the close of the war he settled in Montgomery county, this state. He married Miss Sarah Palley there July 4, 1870 and the next month they removed to Linn county, where their home has been since that time.

He is survived by a wife, and four children; Mrs. Hughes, Sidney Makinson, and Mrs. Nettie Webb, Kansas City, and Oral Makinson, St. Joseph, Mo.

A funeral service was conducted by Rev. E. W. Beeson in the Presbyterian church, Tuesday afternoon and burial was made here. Mr. Makinson was a member of the Presbyterian church and of the I.O.O.F. and M. W. A. lodges.
