Biography
Died: January 9, 1923
He was born in Jackson County,
Indiana in 1840. He came with his family to
Kansas
Territory
in 1857, settling near the town of
Iola
. He joined the 9th Kansas Cavalry, Company D in October 1861. Among
his service records, his company was one of the first and most aggressive in
their pursuit of William Quantrill following Quantrill’s raid on
Lawrence
in August, 1863. After Sant was mustered out in January, 1865, he settled
near the town of
Montana
,
Labette County
,
Kansas
. He was married three times (his first two wives having passed away) and
had five children to live to maturity. He died on January 9, 1923.
He is buried in the
Montana
cemetery just southwest of town.
