A Good Man Gone to Rest..

Samuel Franklin Webber died at his home in this city on Thursday January 13th, at 9:50 p. m.

Brother Webber was born in the state of Illinois, on January 29th, 1832. He went with his parents to Davis county, Indiana, where he grew to manhood. He professed faith in Christ as his Saviour and united with the Acorn Baptist church of Indiana. He was married to Elizabeth Allen on April 13th, 1853, to this union five children were born, of which Mrs. Stella Grace Smith of Visalia, California, is the only living child.

He came with his family to Elk county, Kansas, in the Fall of 1868, settling on a farm in the Union Center township. Brother Webber was one of the Charter members of the Union Center Baptist church where he lived a faithful and consistent member until fifteen years ago when he came to Howard to make his home and placing his membership with the First Baptist church of this city, of which church he was a devoted and faithful member until his Master called him to his heavenly home. But to know him was to appreciate the worth of noble Christian character.

Brother Webber heard the call of his country and gave four years of his life to its service. He was a member of the 27th Inf. Company E. of Indiana. He was a member of the E. M. Stanton Post of the G. A. R. of this city.

The funeral service was conducted by his pastor O. L. Weir, at the home of the deceased on Saturday January 15th at 10 a. m. and his body was laid to rest in Grace Lawn cemetery. In his death he leaves an aged wife, one daughter, three grand children, twelve great grand children with a host of friends to mourn his loss.
