Peter B. Kennedy one of Elmdale’s first citizens and a veteran of the civil war died at his home in Elmdale early Monday morning November 14. The friends of Mr. Kennedy extend deep sympathy to his dereaved family.

Peter B. Kennedy was born April 14, 1847, in Decatur Co., Indiana and died November 14, 1921 aged 74 years, 7 months in Elmdale, Kansas.

He grew to manhood in Decatur Co., Indiana, inlisted in Co. H, 130 Reg. Ind. Inf. at 16 years of age, and served 3 years, was wounded while on sentinel duty once and spent a few months in the hospital, was honorably discharged, December 2, 1865 by Capt. Joseph C. Grissom at Charlotte, N. C.

He was married to Miss Mary Barr January 1, 1868 at Windfall, Indiana. To this union 5 sons and 4 daughters were born. One son and 3 daughters passed away at different intervals. He is survived by four boys and one girl, and his wife Mrs. Kennedy. The sons are John, Everet, Linnie and Roy. The daughter is Mrs. Sadie Rose who lives in California. Mr. Kennedy with his family came to Kansas and settled near here in 1880, for one year, and returned to Elmdale in 1882, where he lived with his family with in a radius of 15 miles ever since.

Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy joined the Christian Church in 1874, and held their membership in the Christian Church here until it was discontinued. He was a charter member of the K.P. Lodge, 204, and the G. A. R.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by the Knights of Pythias. Rev. C. A. Rock led the devotionals. The service was held in the M. E. Church and the interment was made in Elmdale Cemetery.
