Biographical Sketch

  Perry W.  Phillips was born Nov. 19, 1841.  He died March 14, 1923 in Santa Monica, California.  His body was brought back from California to Newton and interment took place in Greenwood cemetery in Newton on March 19, 1923.

  Mr. Phillips was 84 years old at the time of his death and had been a resident of Newton from December 1889 until 1902.  He was a veteran of the Civil war serving over four years in  Company D, 31st Indiana Infantry.  He served as janitor in two of the local schools during his time in Newton.
