Death of O. R. Hoag

  Orrin Randolph Hoag was born at Miram, Sullivan county, Indiana on the 22nd of May, 1840 and died in Osawatomie November 5, 1921.

  He was reared on a farm and moved with his parents to Franklin county, Kansas.  He enlisted in the 12th Kansas Volunteer Infantry, in Co. D, on May 22, 1862 at Peoria City and was honorably discharged on May 22, 1865 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.  He was married to Miss Sarah M. Doan at Leon, Decatur county, Iowa, on the 28th of January 1867, and moved to Franklin county, Kansas on a farm near Lane where he resided until September 1899.  To this union were born five children, four of whom are living:  Mrs. Eva Davis and Walter Hoag, of this city; Mrs. Dessie Williamson, of Boise, Idaho and Mrs. E. C. Sims, of East Vaughn, New Mexico.  Gertie, who died at the age of 10 months and 24 days.  The four children were all present at his bedside when he passed away.  His first wife passed to the Great Beyond at Boise, Idaho in the year of 1905.  With his family he moved to Osawatomie in September, 1899, engaging in the mercantile business until he retired in 1917.  He was married to Rosa B. Wilbur Nov. 20, 1912.  She survives him.

  He united with the Christian church when a young man.  He was taken ill on the 17t of June, 1921, and was never able t be up from that time, suffering intensely much of the time.  During his last illness he often expressed his willingness to go.  Mr. Hoag lived according to the Golden Rule:  Whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, do ye even so to them.

  He was a member of the Geo. H. Thomas post of Ottawa, Kansas and later of Osawatomie Post No. 322.

  The funeral was held Monday and interment was in Elmdale cemetery.
