Noah Pettit
died at his home, on Judge Knox’s place, 8 miles northeast of Humboldt, on
Wednesday, Feb. 9, 1898. He was born January 16, 1834, in Green Co., Pa.,
moved to Illinois at age of 16, enlisted Aug. 27, 1862, in Co. B, 86th Illinois
Infantry, serving 3 years. Married Emma Strait, Dec. 24, 1868, who with 6
sons survives him. The family came to Kansas in 1894 and since 1891 have
lived in Salem township. His last illness of six weeks duration closed by
death, claiming him through heart disease. Funeral services conducted by
Reb. F. W. Fenn at the home Thursday were attended by a large number of friends
and neighbors and the remains interred in LaHarpe cemetery.
