Death of Joshua S. Pepper, Old Soldier and Pioneer.

The long illness of Mr. Pepper has been often noted in the past, resulted in death at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. E. Runyan, 609 North Thirteenth street, Monday morning.

Joshua S. Pepper was born at Snowhill, Md., Oct. 4, 1827, and had lived in this county about thirty years, having lived in Fifty-eight district, southwest, and later moved to this city. When his daughter moved to Parsons he went with her as he needed her care and attention, and then returned with her last year. His wife lives in California with a daughter, Mrs. R. M. Hailstorn and son C. W. Pepper, also, another daughter, Mrs. Frank Holes of Nevada, Mo., was here at the funeral. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the First Methodist church with sermon by his pastor Rev. W. P. Wharton, after which the Grand Army took charge and rendered its funeral service in honor of the dead, and interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery. He had long wished for death and had no fear of eternity.
