FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD THIS AFTERNOON.

He Died on the Farm which He Took as a Homestead Forty-seven Years Ago-

Widow and Five Children Survive.

  John Wesley Woosley, who for forty-seven years had lived on the same farm, two and a half miles southeast of Chanute, which he homesteaded in 1867, died yesterday.  The funeral services were held from the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. C. C. Cissell, pastor of the Methodist church.  Interment was made in Elmwood cemetery.

  Mr. Woosley would have been 73 years old November 7.  He was born in Winston, N. C., and in April 1861, enlisted for the Southern cause.  Two years after the close of the war he was married to Martha E. Riche in Winston.

  They came to Brown county, Kansas, in the same year but remained only until fall, when they drove to Southeastern Kansas, and arrived in the Neosho valley.  He arrived here with 50 cents in cash.  Eight children were born.  Two died in infancy.

  His first wife died in 1893.  In 1897 he was married to Mrs. Clara Keith.  He leaves a widow, five children, two stepchildren and fourteen grandchildren.

  Mr. Woosley had been a member of the Methodist church since boyhood.  He believed in the practice of his religion in the home and in his business and each day before breakfast the entire family attended morning worship.  He was not a member of any fraternal organization.
