Death of John Sandy.

  In the passing of John Sandy, this community loses a good citizen.  He had lived in this community for over forty years and no man was more highly respected than he.  He was a quiet man, fond of his home and children and had many warm personal friends who admired his many good qualities.  Bright’s disease and complications following an illness of several weeks, caused his death.

  The funeral took place from the Christian church in Troy last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Sapp preached a very touching sermon.  The Masons, in which he was a member, attended in a body.  He was also a member of the G. A. R. and members of the local post were also in attendance.  The body laid to rest in Mt. Olive.

  Mr. Sandy was 74 years old.  He was born in Indiana, May 3, 1842, and on December 27, 1861, just before his departure for the civil war was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Jane Lower.  He served with honor during the war.

  Following the war, Mr. and Mrs. Sandy lived for a time in Indiana.  Later they moved to Buchanan county, Missouri, and lived near the Bethel church.  From there they came to Doniphan county in 1876.

  For years Mr. Sandy was a successful farmer, retiring from active work several years ago.  Mrs. Sandy died five years almost to the hour before her husband.

  Eight of Mr. Sandy’s 13 children survive him.  They are Tom Sandy of Kansas City, a United States meat inspector; H. H. and William Sandy of Troy; John Sandy and Mrs. Mollie Honeycutt of St. Joseph; Geo. Sandy of Doniphan; Mrs. Tom Pollard of Brenner, and Mrs. H. D. Kent, who lives on the home farm.  Mr. Sandy is also survived by 30 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
