Obituary

Died at his home in Howard, April 14 at 3 p. m., 1913, John Hamilton McLin. He was born September 1840 in Davis county, Indiana.

Brother McLin was converted and united with the Veal Creek Baptist church of Davis county, Indiana when 17 years of age. He was married to Martha Ann Godwin November 1870. To this union eight children were born. He leaves a devoted wife, four sons and one daughter with a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death. The children are as follows: Jake of Alconia, Ore., Fred of Lewis, Colo., Clarence and Frank of this city and Mrs. McIntyre of the country. Mrs. Elizabeth Small, a sister of Brother McLin is the only living member of his father’s family.

Mr. McLin enlisted in the Union army as a private Co. K, 147th Reg. on one six months call September 1863 at Washington, Indiana. He afterwards enlisted in Co. K, 143 Reg. serving to the close of the war.

He came to Kansas May 24, 1876 and settled on a farm near Howard, placing his membership in the Union Center Baptist church and was ordained a deacon in said church. Brother McLin came with his family to Howard in September 1910 uniting with the First Baptist church where he lived a faithful member until God called him to his heavenly home. He was a good citizen, a devoted husband, a kind father but above all of this he was a Christian.

The funeral was preached in the First Baptist church of this city by his pastor O. L. Weir, and his body was laid to rest in Grace Lawn cemetery. May the Lord comfort the bereaved ones.
