John Batterson Dead.

John Batterson died at his home in this city, on Saturday evening last. Very feeble from age, and having been stricken with paralysis some months ago, his death had been expected. A remarkable vitality kept him alive for a lone time. For near fifteen years he had resided in this part of the county, the most of the time upon his farm in southern Bloomington township, but when he became too feeble for farm life he purchased property in Douglass and moved into town.

John Batterson was born May 3d, 1835, died November 7, 1914, aged 79 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was married to Elizabeth Stewart, November 15, 1855. To this union was born eight children, five still living. He served his country during the Civil war and was a member of Co. H, 7th Iowa Infantry, and was with Sherman on his march from Atlanta to the sea. He was a native of Ohio, but moved with his parents to Iowa when 13 years of age. He lived in Iowa until 1900, when he moved to Kansas where he resided until his death. The funeral was held at the residence on Monday morning last, conducted by Elder Roberts.
