James William Wherrett, was born January 12, 1840, died January 21, 1917, age 77 years, nine days. He was born at Greensburg, Decatur county, Indiana, living there until the year 1861, when he enlisted in the Indiana Cavalry, serving in Co. F, 2d Reg. Was mustered out April 27, 1865. He came to Kansas in the fall of 1874, living in and around Erie, Neosho county until his death. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Nettie Freeman February 24, 1889, and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. A. R. Pratt of Parsons. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, and two brothers, Joe, of Stillwell, Ind., John, of Fowler, Mich. and two sisters, Mrs. Ira Steinberger and Mrs. J. H. Steinberger of this city. He united with the Christian church of this city in 1892. Funeral services were held at the family residence, Tuesday, afternoon, January 23, 1917, the sermon being preached by F. A. Burial was made in Erie Cemetery.
