Thursday morning, November 5th Harry Wallace came in from Chanute and announced his father’s death, which took place in the St. Francis Hospital, the previous afternoon Ted and John Wallace accompanied the casket containing his body, arriving Friday morning at ten o’clock. Mrs. Will Wallace also came with them from her home near Arkansas City, and a niece, Mrs. Holiday of Oswego, Kans., had also arrived.

The funeral took place from the M. E. Church at 10:30, conducted by N. Hill. Music by M. E. Choir.

The members of the G. A. R. Post with comrades from Howard, attended the funeral, using their ritual service at the grave. Quite a number of old friends and acquaintances were present at the funeral.

Mr. Wallace was born in Madison co., Ohio, Jan. 1, 1830. He was married to Miss Harriett Smith, Mar. 17, 1856. To this union six children were born. Four sons growing to manhood and are yet living. He enlisted in the 82nd Reg. Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served through the Civil War. Previously he was in the army under Gen. Taylor in the Mexican War. He became a Mason in 1855 at Xenia, Ohio. After he came to Kansas and located near Longton; he joined lodge at Longton, later in 1882 he was admitted to Elk Falls Lodge and was a member for thirty years. At his own request his membership ceased two years ago. Mrs. Wallace passed away Mar. 21, 1910, and this left Mr. Wallace very lonely. He was a good citizen and enjoyed the friendship of many of our people. He will long be remembered in this community. X X
