DEATH OF J. W. HICKSON.

After Months of Illness End Came to Old

Settler of Allen County.

  J. W. Hickson, who has been in ill health for the last few months, died at his home Wednesday afternoon at 1:20.  For some time his condition had been growing worse and for several days it has been known that there was little, if any hope of his recovery.  All the members of the family were here at the time of his death.  The funeral service was held at the Methodist church yesterday afternoon conducted by Rev. G. W. Trout, of Pittsburg, an old time friend of the deceased, and burial made in the Bronson cemetery.

  James Wesley Hickson was born in Boone county, Indiana, May 14, 1839, died at his home in Moran, Kas., November 1, aged 72 years, 5 months and 17 days.

  On August 12, 1874 he was united in marriage to Cecella Kate Clark.  Four children were born unto them three of whom, and his wife survive.  The children are Mrs. Dema Hemmel, of Moran, Bert Hickson, of Kansas City and Norma Hickson, of Kellogg, Ida.

  Mr. Hickson came to Kansas in September, 1882, and until two years ago, when he sold his farm and removed to Moran, had resided in the Spring Valley neighborhood.  He was a veteran of the Civil war, enlisting in Company F, Eighty-sixth Regiment of Indiana Volunteers, in 1861, and served until the close of the war.  He was in thirty-six engagements and served under General Thomas at Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, but in all of the engagements was not wounded.  He was mustered out at the close of the war.  Until the G. A. R. post of this place disbanded a few years ago, he was a member.  His death removes from the community a splendid citizen and neighbor.  The family, to whom sorrow has been brought, has the sincere sympathy of all the many friends.
