  After a lingering illness Mr. James Monroe Kittrell died at his home in this city last Friday morning at 6:30 o’clock, April 19, 1901, at the extreme age of 71 years.

  He was born at Philadelphia, Tenn., where he lived until he grew to manhood.  In 1861 he enlisted in the 2nd Tennessee regiment and served three years, after which he reinlisted in the 18th Kentucky regiment and served nine months.  He was married in August, 1865, at Somersett, Kentucky, to Miss Elizabeth Burton, who survives him.  To this union were born six children, three boys and three girls, the three girls died in infancy, and the three boys are residents of this city.

  Mr. Kittrell moved to Kansas in 1882, and soon thereafter his eyesight, which had been gradually growing worse since his service in the army, became so badly impaired as to incapaciate (sic) him from labor, and for the past dozen years he has been totally blind.

  The funeral services were held from the M. E. church, Saturday, Rev. Bell officiating, and the body consigned to Mother Earth in the Lyndon cemetery.
