Dies at the Age of 95 Years
Harry Harrison Foreman died at his home in this city last Thursday, at the age of 95 years lacking one day less than a month. He was born January 25, 1813 in Kentucky, and was married to Elizabeth Masterman at Mt. Sterling, Ky., in 1835, and they lived to celebrate their sixty-eighth birthday in this city. He united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church at the age of sixteen years and lived a consistent life, and in his younger years was active in church work, and after locating in Sycamore township, was an attendant at all revival services held in his neighborhood and so continued until his health failed.
Mr. and Mrs. Foreman moved to Indiana when that was a new state, and later by the prairie schooner route to Missouri, and when Kansas settled up to Johnson county Kansas, and in the fall of 1869 to the Osage ceded lands, locating a claim at the foot of Table Mound northwest of what is now Independence. Later he sold this claim, moved to Leavenworth county, and in a few years came back to Sycamore township in this county, where he lived till infirmities compelled him to move to town.
During the civil war he served his country in the First Missouri Cavalry in company with his sons John and Aaron and the old veterans were out in large numbers at his funeral at which Rev. C. H. Jones officiated.
The sons John, Will and Harry are residents of this county, Aaron of Leadville, Colo., and the daughters are Mrs. Goodwin of Sycamore, Mrs. Baldock of San Francisco, Mrs. Ryan of Montara, Mrs. Bingley of Elk City and Mrs. Anna Sheffield who for five years has made it her duty to care for her father for five years, caring for him as an infant, assisted by the other children when possible for them to be present. Mrs. Baldock leaving him only a few weeks ago to go to a daughter who was very ill.
