Obituary.

  Edwin Wallace Smith was born in Anson, Maine, May 10, 1839 and died after a lingering illness of more than three years at his home April 6, 1905, aged 65 years, 10 months, and 26 days.

  He was married at Prairie Centre, Illinois, Jan. 5, 1869 to Carrie C. Kellogg.  To this union was born three children, who with his faithful wife survive him.  There are also two sisters and on brother, Mrs. Sarah Bellknap of Prairie Centre, Ill., Mrs. Mary Kellogg of Alma, Neb., and L. D. Smith of South Dakota left to mourn his loss.

  When Lincoln’s call came for volunteers he responded and enlisted in the 64th Ill. Regiment becoming a member of Co. G receiving an honorable discharge at the close of the war.

  He came with his family from Illinois to Kansas in 1882 locating in Thayer at their present home.

  On Dec. 13, 1902, having expressed a wish to accept Christ as his savior, he was baptised and united with the Methodist church and has ever since showed every evidence of trusting faith in the promise of Christ.  Thus he is gone to that Beautiful Isle.
