EBENEEZER LINN.

Mr. E. Linn was born in Crawford county, Pennsylvania, August 24, 1841. He died at his home in Neodesha, Kansas, January 12, 1906, aged 64 years, 4 months, and 16 days. This is a short chronology of one of Neodesha's oldest residents.

Early in life, in 1844, his parents moved from Pennsylvania to Ft. Madison, Iowa, where he lived until the breaking out of the Civil war. On August 12 1862, he enlisted in Co. E, 19th Iowa Volunteers, and served through the entire war, being honorably discharged July 12, 1865, at Mobile, Alabama. He returned home to his parents who then lived in Van Buren county, Iowa. He was offered promotions from the ranks but refused preferring to stand one of the boys through the entire struggle. No man could question his unselfish loyalty to his country.

On October 21, 1866, he married Miss Mary Harrington. To this union eight children were born, six sons and two daughters: Elmer J., George A., Walter F., Royal Q., James M., Chester E., Florence J., Daugherty and Lula M. Rankin, all of who were present and remain to mourn his departure.

In 1872, he moved with his family from Iowa to Neodesha, Kansas, where he has resided ever since. About four years ago he was stricken with disease. However he was spared at this time with the consciousness that he could not live over four or five years. About one year ago he began a more rapid decline and finally passed to God.

He was converted and united with the Presbyterian church in the winter of 1870. When he moved from Iowa he came to a land of no churches, but those who knew him best say he walked close to God. After the establishment of the Presbyterian church here he united by confession of faith, and at the time of his going was a member of the same. His life was a quiet and undemonstrative one and his departure was like the silent moving of a great sea out into the deep.
