After an illness of little more than a week, D. W. Bailey died at his home in this city on Monday evening, Dec. 24, of la grippe.
Mr. Bailey was born in Maryland on March 30, 1846, and moved with his parents to Iowa when quite young. When the war broke out, although but 18 years of age, he enlisted in the 40th Iowa regiment and served until the close of the war. He was married on May 30, 1884, to Miss Lou F. Sanderson, who is left to mourn her loss.
Dan was one of the old-time residents of Elk City. He conducted a barber shop here for a great many years, and was one of the best known men in the town. The funeral was held at his home on Wednesday, the G. A. R. having charge of the remains.
