Death of a Veteran.

On last Thursday morning we stood at the death bed of Capt. Clark McKay. We saw the old soldier who had faced death on the battle fields of Monterey and Buena Vista and on the plain of Mexico a thousand times, and who had followed the flag of the Union, during the late civil war, from state to state, from battle field to battle field, now struggling in the throes of death. His weeping family at his bedside, friends standing back and with eyes moistened by irrepreeible tears watching his heavy breathing, fearing every moment that each escaping breath might be his last, was a spectacle indeed. Nature itself seemed to sympathize with human suffering. Not even a gust of wind disturbed the peace surrounding the bed of the dying warrior. At half past twelve o’clock he peacefully breathed his last. His funeral took place yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the M. E. church, Rev. H. J. Walker officiating.—Le Roy Reporter.
