Chanute Old Settlers Association Necrology Report 1908

Charles F. Prange passed away July 21st ’08. He has been a resident of Chanute for about thirty-five years, moving here from Wilson County, having gone there in 1871. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the army, he was released on application of his father as being under age, but afterwards enlisted in the company commanded by his father. He was married in 1870 (Apr. 17th) to Louella Fergusen, in Ind. About three or four years after coming to Chanute he was elected constable of Tioga township and appointed city marshal of Chanute, also undersheriff for Neosho County. His services in these offices were almost continuous until 1895 when he was elected sheriff of Neosho County which office he held for two terms. After his terms as sheriff he again held the office of city marshal by election.
