Came to Kansas in 1854 and Was a

Soldier in the 12th Kansas Infantry.

A. W. Diggs was born in Randolph county, Indiana, and died at his home at 1622 Crawford avenue in this city at 12:05 o’clock this morning. Mr. Diggs was one of the earliest pioneers of Kansas, coming to this state in 1854 with a surveying party. He was married to Rosannah Bowen, October 14, 1856 at Ottumwa, Coffey county, Kansas. Mr. Diggs served in the war of the rebellion, enlisting in the Twelfth Kansas Infantry and was discharged from the hospital in 1865. The immediate cause of his death was traceable to the hardships and privations of his army life which afflicted him for years. During the early days in Kansas, Mr. Diggs suffered all the privations incident to pioneer life, but he never lost faith in Kansas and saw it grow from a struggling territory into one of the greatest states in the Union.

Mr. Diggs leaves a wife and three daughters and one son. Mrs. Lina D. Tyler, of Wichita; Mrs. Sallie M. Goddard, of Evanston, Ill.; Miss Lou J. Diggs, of Philadelphia, Pa. and Mr. George B. Diggs, of Pittsburg, Kas. The arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made.
