Absalom Gray, aged 90 years, who has been making his home with Mrs. C. W. Hale for the past year, died last Saturday. He served his country in Co. B, 37th Iowa Volunteers. Funeral Sunday, with sermon by Rev. J. M. Mason.
Independence Daily Reporter, Saturday, Nov. 19, 1904:
Old Soldier Passes Away,----Absalom Gray died this morning at 1:05 o’clock of paralysis at the home of Mrs. C. W. Hale, with whom he had made his home since January 1904. He was 90 years old and on old soldier, having enlisted with Company B, 37th Iowa, in 1862. The only known relatives are Mrs. John Dillman and family, Mrs. Dillman being a cousin of the deceased. G. E. Gilmore was appointed his guardian some time ago by the Probate court. The funeral service will be held at the late residence at 2 p.m., Sunday, services in charge of Rev. J. M. Mason.
