Buried in Cherokee Cemetery, Cherokee, Crawford County, KS.
Word was received in Cherokee just before we went to press last week that Abraham Fields had died at Fort Dodge and that his body had been sent to Cherokee for burial. The remains arrived Friday evening via Cherryvale accompanied by Mrs. Fields and son, William, who had gone out on receiving word that his father was so sick.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dixon at the residence Sunday afternoon and the G. A. R. gave their ritual services.
Abraham A. Fields was born in Pennsylvania Oct. 26th, 1826, moved to Ohio in early manhood. He enlisted in the United States army and served two years. Come to Kansas and settled here at Cherokee about 35 years ago. Went to the Soldiers Home at Fort Dodge about ten years ago, and died there April 9th, aged 87 years, 5 months and 13 days. He leaves a wife and three children to morn their loss: Wm. Fields of Cherokee, Mary Fields of Kansas City and Robt. Fields of Los Angeles.
Interment was made in the Cherokee cemetery.
Mr. Fields was the oldest member of Shiloh Post, whose ranks are thinning very rapidly.
