27 December 1978
Funeral Card of EDWARD WILLIAM LUERMAN
Edward William Luerman, son of Herman and Minnie (Schmidt) Luerman, was born June 28, 1900, near Dubuque in Russell County, Kansas. His death occurred on December 27, 1978, from an apparent heart attack at his farm home while tending his cattle. His age was 78 years, 5 months and 29 days.

Edward lived his entire life in Russell County in the Dubuque area. His home was on the farm where he was born and lived all of his life. On June 25, 1931, he was united in marriage to Alvena Dick at Dorrance, Kansas. This union was blessed with two daughters, Virginia and Erma.

All of Edward's working life was filled with the many activities of a farmer-stockman. After he semi-retired he continued to maintain an interest in cattle. This past year he had put out a feed crop and was currently looking after several head of cattle for his own enjoyment.

During his leisure time he was an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed target practice. He had made his own shell reloading equipment, which he used for himself and for the benefit of his grandchildren.

His early Christian life was affiliated with the Dubuque Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. After the closing of the Dubuque Church, he transferred his church membership to the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Milberger where he had been very active for the past many years. He also enjoyed the radio Christian broadcasts and was a devout Bible scholar.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, two brothers, Henry and Charles, and two sisters, Emma Steinle and Lizzie Klusener
Survivors include his wife, Alvena, of the home, and his daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Virginia) Bitter of Hoisington, Kansas, and Mrs. Richard (Erma) Kilian of Russell. Other survivors are his brother, John Luerman of Russell, and his sisters, Mrs. Tilly Ruby of Russell and Mrs. Lena Meier of Bunker Hill, Kansas, as well as his grandchildren, Randy, Rick and Renae Kilian, several other relatives and a host of friends.
