He was born October 30, 1919 at Bunker Hill, the son of James Walter and Ethel Goldie Meharg Berry.
Lester married Neva Bridenstine January 8, 1943 at Friends Chapel, Coyle, Oklahoma.

Lester was born on a wheat farm in Bunker Hill where he attended Shannon Grade School and Bunker Hill High School. He worked in the oilfield during the oil boom.

During World War II he enlisted in the military in 1941 and served until 1945. He was a Staff Sergeant in the 33rd Armored Regiment Maintenance Company of the 3rd Armored "Spearhead" Division.

As a tank commander, he served in Normandy, North France, the Rhineland, and the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge).

He returned to Russell county taking over the family farm where his five children were born and raised. Over the years, in addition to farming, he also drove a milk truck, operated a radio, TV and CB repair shop, delivered propane to homes, worked in an auto supply store, was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Russell County, and served as a reserve officer on the Hoisington Police Department.

He operated a gas station of worked in an automotive repair shop, until he retired in 1984.

After his retirement, he and Neva moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, where they lived until 1996, after which they moved to Norman, Oklahoma, to be near family. Lester enjoyed golfing, camping, RVing, boating, computer work and traveling. Lester and Neva drove the Alaska Highway on its 50th anniversary.

Lester was a member of Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church, Lions, Good Sam's Club, GCGer's of Goodrich UMC, all of Norman; VFW Post No. 6240, Russell; and 3rd Armored Division Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include: his wife; three sons, Stuart Berry, Talala, Oklahoma, David Berry, Tyler, Texas, and Dr. Galen Berry, River Falls, Wisconsin, and Cindy Pennington, Norman, Oklahoma; one sister Julia Alexander, Surprise, Arizona; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be held at Friends Chapel, Coyle, Oklahoma, Wednesday, October 27, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Merl Kinser officiating. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Coyle, Oklahoma.
