During World War I, he entered the service in July, 1918, for the duration. He engaged in farming most of his adult lifetime, but retired from active production of crops and stock raising about 10 years ago. However, he resided at the farm home until he entered the Russell Nursing Home in September.

He never married. Surviving family members are two brothers, Ludwig of Garden City and Emanuel of Salina, and two sisters, Mrs. John (Lydia) Maier, Russell, and Mrs. Leah Morgenstern, Salem, Ore.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, from the Deines Funeral Home in Russell, Pastor Gilbert Kisling of the United Emanuel Lutheran Church at Milberger officiating. Mrs. Rudolph Funk was organist.
