During this time, he met and married Virginia Opal Nichols in 1936. For the next 40 years he served as a teacher and school principal, the ast 25 years were in Wichita Public Schools. In 1978, Fayette was inducted into the Kansas Teacher's Hall of Fame in Dodge City. He served in many organizations, including president of Lion's Club, the National Association of Mature People, president of Air Capital Active People, president of the Wichita Retired Teacher's Association and WRTA Legislative Committee, which lobbied in Topeka for teacher benefits.

In addition to his work in education, Fayette was an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren and served his church for many years as visitation minister, pulpit minister, Sunday school teacher, board member and deacon. Both his father and grandfather were Brethren ministers.

Survivors include; his wife, Wichita; daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Dennis Brunner, Wichita, Glenna and Roger Hackerott, Russell, and grandchildren, Dr. Chris Brunner, Wichita, Troy Hackerott, Stillwater, Oklahoma, Shauna Hackerott, Southbend, Indiana, and Amanda Owens, Federal Way, Washington, and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at First Church of the Brethren, Wichita, with Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita, in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in First Church of the Brethren, 1103 N. Jefferson, Wichita, KS 67203.
