Obituary of DOROTHY L. BLACK
Dorothy L. Black, 74, Russell, died Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at Metroplex Hospital, Killeen, Texas.

She was born April 12, 1927, at Madison, the daughter of James Luther and Eva Cornelia Thompson Rhyne.

Dorothy married Tom W. Black September 3, 1946, at Russell. He died July 5, 1979.

She moved from Madison to Gorham in 1936 where she graduated from high school. After she was married she lived most of her life in Russell and Hays. She worked for Travenol, a medical supply manufacturing company at Hays and also worked at the Hays School District for several years. She moved from Hays to Russell in 1993.

Dorothy was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, both of Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Nita Bedwell; and a brother Francis "Punk" Rhyne.

Survivors include: four sons, Jim and Tom Black, both of Bakersfield, Calif., Robert Black, Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Monty Black, Lenexa; one daughter Lori Hodges, Kileen, Texas; one brother, Ralph "Red" Rhyne, Augusta; one sister, Doris Dean, Greenland, Arkansas, 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel, Russell, with Rev. Glenn Tombaugh officiating.

Burial will follow at Russell City Cemetery, Russell.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to service time at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Diabetes Association, or American Heart Association, both in care of the mortuary.
