Obituary of LEWIS DELBERT CRANE |
Lewis Delbert Crane 79, a long time resident of Bartlett and the Labette county
vicinity, passed away at the Oswego hospital early Sunday morning Jan. 14. He
had been ill since last September and in the hospital two weeks prior to his
death. Mr. Crane was born in Carbondale, Ind., Dec. 12, 1871. He moved with his parents to Kansas in 1877. When he was a young man he took a business course in Kansas City business college and fitted himself for a business Career. He then returned to Bartlett and engaged in the hardware and implement business and later conducted extensive grocery business for many years. Mr. Crane held a prominent part in the town's history. He served as mayor for several years. He was well known throughout the community for his keen sense of humor. He was married to Almeda Mickey May 30, 1903. To this union were born two daughters, Ruth and Florent Crane. His wife died Aug. 25 1907. In October, 1910 Mr Crane was remarried to Mrs Edna Lonnecker of Bartlett. To this union was born one son, L. D., Jr. Survivors besides his widow, include two daughters, Miss Ruth Crane of Topeka; Mrs Floret Spaulding, Colfax, Iowa, and one son L. D> Crane, Jr of Birmingham, Ala.; one step daughter, Mrs Theodosia Megginson; two step sons, George Lonnecker, Mobile, Ala.; and Meredith Lonnecker, Independence; two sisters Mrs Cora Hahn and Mrs Ada McNeal, Bartlett; four brothers W. I. Crane, Oswego; J. C. Crane of Pittsburg; Harry Crane, Dearing; Lee Crane of Independence, and many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held, Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Presbyterian church with Rev. V. F. Cloninger of Chetopa, delivering the sermon. Burial was in Lake Creek cemetery. |
