CHETOPA ADVANCE, 15 December 1869
Obituary of AMANDA HUNTER KUYKENDALL
Amanda, wife of Josiah, Kuy KenDall (sic), was born in Texas, on the Brazos River; moved in early life, with her brother's family (Mr. Hunter) to Virginia; then she removed to Kentucky, where she was married to her now bereaved companion, in the year 1854.

About a year ago she, with her husband and three interesting children came to Chetopa, whence, on December 5th, her freed spirit took its happy flight to a fairer, brighter clime above, evermore to cease from weary wanderings.

She had just returned from Kansas City, where she had gone to visit her two daughters at school, and doubtless contracted her fatal illness by exposure on the trip, being out in that first snow storm, and not being able to reach a comfortable house for several hours.  How little did those tender daughters think, when they bade their mother good-bye that-that would be their last embrace till they meet in the presence of the angels in heaven.

May the Holy Comforter sustain our brother in this hour of deep affliction and may these afflictions work out for him and his family a far more exceeding weight of glory.

Our sister was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and died in the faith of the Gospel.  Her funeral was attended by the writer, on Tuesday, the 7th inst., at 3 p.m., from Spauldings' Hall to the new Cemetery, where I believe, she is the first and only occupant.

"Then sweet be her rest,
Till Christ bid her rise
To join him in triumph
Ascending to the skies."
