Obituary of JOSEPHINE HIATT
Mrs Josephine Hiatt, 94 died at the Oswego hospital at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday, January 16 following an illness extending over a period of three years, much of that time she was a patient at the Oswego hospital. She was re-admitted on Dec 1, and has been seriously ill since that time. 
Mrs Hiatt was born August 5, 1857 at Terre Haute, Indiana. She was married July 5 1876 to Mark Hiatt who died in 1932. 
She came to Kansas at the age of nine with her parents in a covered wagon. They homesteaded a farm which is now the Kansas Gas and Electric Co. at Service. 
During World I she was active in all things and knitted more sweaters for 
soliders than any other Oswego woman. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. D. E. O'Connell and Mrs F. M. McColey, Oswego; Mrs Roy Jemison, Ft Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs Frank Hahn, Toledo Ohio, and one son Leo Hiat of Tulsa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Three sons, Orval Hiatt, Ross Hiatt and Harley Hiatt are deceased. A sister, Mrs Dora Kennedy of Houston, Texas, also survives. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Hammons Chapel, conducted by Rev. Gale C. Tush, pastor of the Baptist church. Vern Sanders will sing "Face to Face", "The Home Over There," and "Have Thine Own Way," accompanied by Mrs. Tom Hamman. Burial will be in the Oswego cemetery. 
Pallbearers will be W.A. Lawellin, Roy Greer, W. A. Blair, Harold Handley, Art Gore and George Munro.
