THE OSWEGO DEMOCRAT, 1 September 1906 |
Obituary of ISAM MARTIN |
Isam Martin died at his home in Oswego, Tuesday, Aug. 27 1906 at 7 a.m. The
funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 10 o'clock and the interment
was made in the Oswego cemetery. Rev. E. G. Manley of the Christian church had
charge of the funeral services. Isam Martin was born in Bourbon county, Kas., near Ft Scott in June 1850. He lived there with his parents who came to that county in an early day and were a month the first settlers in that part of the state. When a boy he crossed the plains, driving an ox team with freight. Later he located in Oswego and married a Miss Crain who died some twenty years ago. To this union three children were born two of whom are dead and one daughter, Anise Martin Pruitt survives him. Mr. Martin was a hard working, industrious man, attending strictly to business and had accumulated considerable property. Some months ago a cancer developed in his mouth which rapidly spread to his throat in spite of the best medical treatment, and he finally succumbed to its terrible ravages. Mr. Martin's religion was the Golden Rule He was a faithful, consistent and obliging friend a loving and indulgent father. Three brothers survive him but none of them were able to be present at the funeral. The brothers are, Geo. of Emporia, Joseph of Chanute, and James of Oklahoma. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him to the great beyond a number of years ago. The sorrowing daughter and brothers have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. |
