Obituary of BARTLETT SHAW

Bartlett Shaw died on Feb. 15, 1896, at about 6:30 p.m., while sitting in his chair talking with his family, (wife and daughter). He had been to Lawrence that day, came home and ate a hearty supper, did his chores, and sat down to spend the evening. When he quit talking the folks thought he had dropped off to sleep, but noticed that he looked rather unusual. They went to him and tried to arouse him, then called in his son and a few heighbors, afterwards a doctor, but all efforts to arouse him failed. He was born July 30, 1836; enlisted in the 1st Mass. vol. cavalry Sept. 20, 1861; was mustered out Nov. 7, 1864.

Came to Kansas February, 1882, and located in Sarcoxie, Jefferson Co., where he had since resided. He was considered an upright and honorable man, and was respected by all.

Sarcoxie, Feb. 17, 1896

Resolved, by G. D. Wallace Post No. 379, G. A. R., that we sincereley regret the loss of Comrade Bartlett Shaw; that by his death the Post has lost a good comrade, the community a good citizen, the family a kind father and an affectionate companion; and that this Post extend to the bereaved family their heartfelt sympathy.
Resolved, that a copy of these resolutions be furnished the family and also spread on the minutes of the Post, and that a copy be furnished the press.
