Obituary-McCracken.

Died, at his residence northeast of Perry, Oct. 27, 1896, James McCracken. He was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, Sept. 3, 1828. He was a soldier in the Mexican War, and after that conflict was over he moved to Missouri, where he was united in marriage to Miss P.A. Townsend at Platte City in 1853. Unto them four children were born, three sons and a daughter, who were all present during his last hours of suffering, with the exception of his oldest son, who resides in Idaho. The deceased was one of the old settlers of Kansas, having come to this state in 1856, and has been a resident of Jefferson County for 28 years. Mr. McCracken has been a member of the Christian Church for the past 25 years. His was a long, active and useful life, and he will be greatly missed by all, for he was an upright and useful citizen. In the church, as one of her most devoted members, in the community, as a kind neighbor and honorable gentleman, in the family, as an affectionate husband and father, it could be said of him, that to know him was to love him. His remains were taken to the cemetery, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors, and there laid to rest.
