Richmond Dalton was born July 9th, 1815, in Albemarle county, Va. He migrated with the family to Kentucky, where the house of the widowed mother was burned. With her he went to Indiana, and later to Illinois, where he was married to Priscilla Halm Nov. 24, 1839. From Illinois he came to Missouri and finally to Kansas, arriving here during the civil war, and settling on the homestead north of Winchester where he lived til his decease.

October 6th, 1870, he married Parmelia Jane Bray, who survives him. By his first wife he had 14 children, 6 boys and 8 girls, of who 11 are now living.

During the pastorate of E.L. Thomas he united with the M.E. church and was baptized July 27th, 1890. Brother Dalton had a very decisive religious experience. He was thoroughly versed in the Holy Scriptures from which he could quote extensively from memory. It was his delight to converse on Scriptural themes.

Like Job, he was a great sufferer, and his prayer was that he might be also like Job in patience.

He died Sunday night at 10:20 aged 84 years, 3 months, and 22 days. His last words were, ìLord Jesus let now thy servant rest, and take me away from this misery.î Thus he came to the ìgrave in full age, like a shock of corn cometh in his season.

The funeral took place on Tuesday, October 3d. Rev. Titcomb was requested to conduct the services but he was too feeble to comply. Rev. Raines conducted the services at the M.E. church where the many friends of Mr. Dalton met to pay respect to his memory. The interment took place in the Wise cemetery.î
