Arthur P. Laughlin

ARTHUR P. LAUGHLIN is cashier of the Kanona State Bank and is the responsible executive head of that institution. He has had a wide and varied experience as a Kansas citizen, has been a farmer, is still interested in farm property, and has learned the banking business thoroughly as a result of study and experience.

Mr. Laughlin was born at Atchison, Kansas, October 22, 1882. His father, P. T. Laughlin, was born in Ireland in 1846 and when he was two years old his parents came to America and settled in Wisconsin, which was admitted to the Union the same year the Laughlins settled there. About 1868, after reaching mature years, P. T. Laughlin came to Kansas and located at Atchison, where he married and where for many years he was a successful farmer. Later he was in the hardware business and died in that city in 1912. He represented the second district of Atchison County for two terms in the State Legislature and in politics he was a democrat and a member of the Catholic Church. P. T. Laughlin married Annie Purcell, who was born in Illinois in 1854 and is still living at Atchison.

Arthur P. Laughlin attended the public schools of Atchison, and for one year was a student in St. Benedict's College in that city. From school he went to the farm, and farming in Atchison County was his chief business until 1915. He then came west and located at Norcatur, where he was assistant cashier of the Citizens State Bank. In March, 1917, he entered upon his present duties as cashier of the Kanona State Bank. This bank was established and opened for business March 5, 1917. Tim Woods is president of the bank and Dick Wilson of Norcatur is vice president. The bank has a capital of $10,000 and surplus of $1,500, and has more than justified the object and purposes of its founders during the two years of its history.

Mr. Laughlin is treasurer of Altory Township in Decatur County. He is a Catholic, is a third degree Knight of Columbus and member of Horton Council No. 834 of that order. He is a Modern Woodmen of America, a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen at Norcatur, and of the Fraternal Aid Union. In politics he votes as a democrat. He owns a home at Kanona.

In 1911, at Horton, Kansas, Arthur P. Laughlin married Miss Dora Kohnle, daughter of Henry and Maggie Kohnle, who live on a farm in Johnson County, Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Laughlin have three children: Hugh, born August 19, 1912; Elaine, born April 8, 1915; and Helen, born December 14, 1917.
