Wilma M. (Foster) Stranathan

Wilma M. Stranathan was born January 10, 1918 in Harper, Kansas to Amos and Martha Foster. She died on March 27, 2007.

Wilma was married to Walter Kiser June 7, 1933 in Anthony, Kansas. They started their married life in Corwin, Kansas and moved several times before settling in Harper. During their time in Harper, Wilma was a homemaker and later was the first employee hired for the Harper Hospital. After Walt’s death she met and married Paul Stranathan and moved to Medicine Lodge where she did painting and wallpapering, a job she loved. Later she became a cook at the Medicine Lodge Hospital. She was baptized April 26, 1968 and became a member of the Chikaskia Baptist Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

When Wilma was younger she loved to dance and was very good at it. Later in life she discovered bingo and was very good at it. Her bumper sticker read "This car stops at all bingo games". Wilma always looked forward to Saturdays. Her granddaughter Elaine took her to breakfast and then, once a month, to the beauty shop to have her hair and nails done. It was a weekly occasion that she loved.

Wilma was preceded in death by husbands Walt Kiser and Paul Stranathan; a son Delmer Kiser; a son-in-law, Bill Smith, and three grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Mildred Esparza and her husband, Angel of Harper, Kansas, Roberta Galloway and her husband Don and Lila Smith, all of Kansas City, Missouri; one son, Kenneth Kiser of Harper, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Louise Owens of Coats, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and countless good friends.
