Hylon Hope (Massey) Hogard Howard

Hope peacefully passed on April 18, 2007 surrounded by her family at Beverly Living Center Clovis after 89 exciting years of living. She was born on September 10, 1917 to Joseph Raymond Massey and Lulu Gail Massey in Sun City, Kansas. She was retired from CSU Fresno as a Student Loan Administrator.

She was predeceased by both parents; her first husband Glenn Hogard; her second husband, W. D. (Bill) Howard; and brother Dr. Joseph R. (Doc) Massey.

Hope is survived by sisters, Miriam Moss of Enid, OK, and Lee Ives of Clovis, CA; brother, Kent Massey of Foristel, MO; daughters, Judith (Hogard/Howard) Garrett of Clovis and Anne Sharpe of Greer, SC; granddaughters and their husbands, Hylon and Dennis Kaufmann of Sanger and Charlotte and Kenny Montoya of Albuquerque, NM; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Kaufmann of Sanger and Brittani and Cory Montoya of Albuquerque, NM. There are also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family thanks all of the staff at Beverly Living Center Clovis, especially Amanda and Stacy, for all of the loving care they provided.

Graveside memorial services will be April 24, 2007 at 10:30am at Academy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Hylon Hope Howard Memorial Scholarship c/o Clovis East High School Timberwolves Foundation, 1175 Shaw Ave. #104, PMB 366, Clovis, CA 93612.


"Hylon Hope Massey and Glen LeRoy Hogard were married in February, 1936 at the courthouse in Anthony, Kansas. Their daughter, Judith Gail Hogard, was born on September 11, 1936 in Pratt, Kansas. The couple divorced shortly thereafter. Hope was introduced to W. D. (Bill) Howard by her best friend Roweena Marsh in 1938. They were married on April 15, 1939 in St. Charles, Missouri. Their daughter, Phyllis Anne Howard, was born on February 3, 1940 in Pratt, Kansas. Judy began using the surname Howard when she entered school." - Hylon Kaufmann, 25 April 2007.

Dad (Ray Massey), Clyde Gillmore (married to Josephine Meadors), and Ben Martin (married to Lotta Meadors) all got jobs with the Santa Fe RR. Ray's first wife was Gail Meadors.
