Florence H. (Gant) Trulove Pratt

Florence H. (Gant) Trulove Pratt, 99 of Herington, died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Lutheran Care Home, Herington. She was born on December 29, 1906 at Medicine Lodge, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph Lee Gant and Hattie O. (King) Gant.

Funeral service was held on Saturday February 25, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, Herington, Kansas, with Rev. Jorge Arvelo officiating. Special rites were given by Esther Chapter #96, Order of the Eastern Star. Burial was later that afternoon at the Highland Cemetery in Medicine Lodge with Pastor Frank DeFisher officiating.

Mrs. Trulove Pratt was an Elementary School Teacher (teaching the 6th grade) in Herington, and also served as the Elementary School Principal. She retired in 1968 after 31 1/2 years. She graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1925 and then received her B.S. Degree in Education from Kansas State College in Pittsburg, Kansas. She received her Master’s degree in Administration at Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia, Kansas.

She was a member of the Herington United Methodist Church. She was a Master Builder of Kansas State Teacher’s Association, a life member of the National Education Association, and received an honorary life membership from the Parent Teacher Association. She was Past President of Theta Sigma Upsilon; Herington Teacher’s Association; Herington B.P.W.; Herington Woman’s Club; Domestic Science Club; and a 50 year member of Esther Chapter #96, Order of the Eastern Star, a Past Matron and a member of the May E. Lapham Past Matron’s Club. She also belonged to the Grand Cross of Color International Rainbow for Girls and the Centennial Belles.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law Janice Trulove and her granddaughter Michelle Trulove both of Arvada, Colorado.

She married Louis C. Trulove on June 28, 1941 in Wichita. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1952. She then married Van M. Pratt on December 23, 1966 in Herington, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1975. She is preceded in death by her son Michael Trulove on November 13, 2004. She was the last of eight children; three brothers Richard Gant, Luther Gant, Charley Gant and four sisters Rosie Kinsey, Jennie Arndt, Bessie Gant and Zella Suhler.
