Edward Elmer DARNELL IS DEAD

E. E. Darnell, former owner and operator of the hotel in Lake City, and well known in Medicine Lodge, died at his home in Coldwater last week, on Tuesday, February 16th. The following is clipped from the Coldwater Star:

"Edward Elmer Darnell was born in Illinois, January 18, 1874 and departed this life at the age of 63 years and 28 days, at his home in Coldwater, Kans., February 16, 1937.

"He was brought to Cowley county, Kans., when one year old, and there grew to manhood. He came to Comanche county in 1912 and engaged in farming. Two years later, he moved to Lake City, Kans., where he farmed for one year.

"Mr. Darnell was united in marriage with Frankie Rolston, December 29, 1914. They opened the Hotel Darnell in Lake City in 1920 and operated that business until 1928. They moved to Ashland in 1929, where they operated the Hudson Hotel for a period of three years, then moved to Fowler, Colo., where they operated a hotel for one year. On September 16, 1933, they took charge of the Coates Hotel in Coldwater, which they operated until the time of Mr. Darnell's death.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, and two brothers, T. A. Darnell of Hominy, Okla., and A. T. Darnell of Clebourne, Texas, also ten nephews, 12 nieces, a host of grandnephews and grandnieces and an unnumbered group of friends."
