Herbert Paul Schmaltz, 77, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, in Beech Grove. He was a resident of Indianapolis.
He was born March 10, 1924, in Indianapolis. His parents were Nicholas and Elizabeth (Need) Schmaltz. He married Martha Schmaltz. She preceded him in death. He then married Hazel M. (Keith) Schmaltz. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Chuck Schmaltz of Greenwood and Ronald Schmaltz and Gary Schmaltz, both of Indianapolis; four daughters, Barbara Sizemore of Edinburgh and Sharon Fields, Sandy Keith and Betty Keith, all of Indianapolis; a brother, Robert Schmaltz of Indianapolis; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was employed by Bridgeport Brass for 38 years, where he was a superintendent prior to retirement.
Father Kirkhoff will conduct a service at 10 a.m. today at St. Jude Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in White River Township.
