Billie M. (Winchester) Poppa, 76, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis.
She was a 1944 graduate of Southport High School and a lifetime alumni member.
She was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Indianapolis. Her parents were William T. and Lillian Mary (Redmond) Winchester. She married James T. Thompson, Jr. He preceded her in death. She then married Richard F. Poppa on Aug. 8, 1990. He preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1994. Survivors include two stepsons, Richard A. Poppa of Skaneateles, N.Y., and William S. Poppa of Lafayette, La.; two stepdaughters, Carol DeCoursey of Indianapolis and Lou Renshaw of Columbus; a sister, Donna J. Schafer of Greenwood; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bettielee Harnedy and Norma Ruth Winchester.
She was employed as program engineer at Boeing Co. in Huntsville, Ala., for 24 years. She was previously employed at Stewart Warner Corp. in Indianapolis.
She was a member of Southport Heights Christian Church, Southport Chapter 442 Order of Eastern Star and Tuesday Morning Bible Study.
The Rev. Keith Hamm will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Indianapolis. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
