The mail train north due here at 10:50 a.m. ran over James Mitchell, who was lying on the track Saturday morning a short distance north of Columbus. He has worked with lumber men and was well known among log haulers at Edinburg and Columbus. It is supposed he was intoxicated.

Note: Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Columbus, Columbus Township,Bartholomew County, Certificate and Record of Death, page 244 records that James W. Mitchel [sic] died an accidental death from a railroad locomotive running over his body on 21 Apr 1900. His age was not known. He was male, white and a tie hewer. The informant was Dr. J. F. Furgate, Coroner.
