John T. Hammond [sic], age 70 years, was found dead Tuesday morning sitting in his barn door on his farm near Mahalasville. He was an old resident of the county, a veteran of the civil war, and a respected citizen.

Note: Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Helath Officer’s Record Number 8, page 124, records that John T. Hammans died from natural causes on 23 Jan 1900 in Martinsville, Washington Township, Morgan County, Indiana, age 69 years. He was white, male, married and a farmer, born in Indiana. His parents’ names and birthplaces were unknown to John H. Maxwell, Coroner, who investigated and reported his death. He was buried in Hilldale Cemetery on 25 Jan 1900, undertaker H. J. Hinson.
