John H. Fewell
John H. Fewell, 85, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. He was a longtime resident of Martinsville.
He was born Sept. 20, 1917, in Minonk, Ill. His parents were John Riley and Anna Louisa (Waltz) Fewell. He married Caroline J. (Bowman) Fewell on July 4, 1940. She preceded him in death June 24, 2002. Survivors include two daughters, C. Diane Stafford and Ginger Sue Stidd, both of Martinsville; three sons, John N. Fewell of Greenwood and Mike J. Fewell and Mark C. Fewell, both of Martinsville; a sister, Irene Stanley of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Crafton and Bessie Fisher; and two brothers, Maurice Irvin Fewell and Ralph Julius Fewell.
He was a 1937 graduate of Clark Township High School.
He started his own businesses as a developer, builder and farmer in 1947. In 1950, he founded Fewell Lumber Co. in Martinsville.
He was a member of Emmanuel Apostolic Church.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1944 to 1946.
The Revs. Mark Abernathy, Robert Potter and William Bryant will conduct a service at 11 a.m. today at Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Martinsville. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service today at the church. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery in Martinsville. Costin Funeral Chapel in Martinsville is handling arrangements.
