John B. Dobyns died at his home near Southport last Friday. Deceased had been a resident of Indiana since 1834, and lived in Bartholomew and Johnson counties until 1868, when he moved to Southport. Deceased was the father of Mrs. J. H. Wooley and Dr. P. K. Dobyns, of this city. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the Methodist church in Southport, conducted by Rev. T. A. Goodwin, of Indianapolis.

Note: Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Southport, Perry Township, Marion County, Certificate and Record of Death, Health Officer's Record Number 2, page 353 records that John B. Dobyns died at about 10 o’clock p. m. on 5 Jul 1900 in Southport from cystitis of two months’ duration, caused by a fractured femur of 14-½ months’ duration, contributory complication senility, aged eighty-one years, seven months and three days. He was male, white, widowed and a farmer, born in Virginia. His father’s name was Dangerfield Dobyns born in England and his mother’s maiden name Eve Barger, born in Virginia. The informant was F. W. Curry. John was buried in Southport on 8 Jul 1900, William Carson, undertaker.
